Negotiation Structure Head of the Negotiating Team

Prof. Tanja Miščević, PhD 

She was born on August 6, 1966 in Zemun, where she finished elementary and high school. She graduated from the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade in 1989, and in 1997 she earned her Master’s degree from the same faculty. She gained her PhD in 2002, with a thesis "The role of international organizations in the contemporary development of international law". Specialization in the field of European Union, she gained by attending specialized programs at the University of Bonn in 1998 and in 2004 at the College of Europe in Bruges.

As Associate Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, Ms. Miščevic teaches International Organizations, UN System, EU Enlargement Policy and History of European Integration. She lectured as a Visiting Professor at the Military Academy of the Ministry of Defence, at the Centre for European Integrations of the University of Bonn, Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia and the Faculties of Law and Economics of the University of Montenegro. From 2004 to 2012, she was Head of the International Organizations course at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia.

From 2005 to 2009 she was the Director of the European Integration Office of the Government of Serbia, member of the Negotiating team for Stabilization and Association Agreement negotiations, and Head of the Negotiating team for Readmission and Visa Facilitation Agreement between Serbia and the EU. During 2011 and 2012, Ms. Miščević served first as Advisor to the Minister of Defence, then as State Secretary for Defence Policy at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia. Previously, from 2009 to 2010 she was a member and Vice-President of the Board of the Anticorruption Agency. Prior to her appointment as Head of the Negotiating team, Ms. Miščević served as Special Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister responsible for foreign trade in the Serbian Government.

She is the author of many articles on the theory and practice of functioning of international governmental organizations, the reform of the founding acts of the European Union, the historical development of European integration, EU enlargement policy, the Stabilisation and Association process, the relations between Serbia and the European Union and the Common Foreign and Security Policy. She wrote three books: "Association to the European Union" (2005), "Association to the European Union" (2009), and "A New Era of International Organizations" (2012).

She received the "Contribution of the Year to Europe” award in 2006, then in 2014, as well as “The best European of the Balkans” award and "The Rainbow" award for promotion of LGBT rights and fight against homophobia in Serbia.

Ms. Miščević is the Vice-President of the European Movement in Serbia.
